Option 1: Set it up as an External USB Drive
Best for: Backups, transferring large amounts of data, or portable storage.
If you want to keep the WD Gold inside its external enclosure and plug it in via USB, the NAS will mount it as an external shared folder.
Connect the Drive:
Plug the external enclosure into one of the USB ports on your DXP4800 Plus. For a mechanical hard drive, any of the USB 3.0 or 10Gbps ports on the back will provide plenty of bandwidth.
Open UGOS Pro:
Log into your Ugreen NAS web interface.
Locate External Storage:
Format the Drive:
Access the Data:
Once formatted, open the
File Manager
. The drive will appear as a new shared folder (usually named something like
or
), ready for drag-and-drop storage.
Option 2: Create a True Btrfs Storage Pool (Recommended)
Option 2: Create a True Btrfs Storage Pool (Recommended)
Best for: Maximum performance, data snapshots, app installation, and deep integration with the NAS.
Since the WD Gold is a premium, 24/7 enterprise drive, keeping it in a USB enclosure creates a bottleneck. To get the true benefits of a Btrfs volume on your Ugreen NAS, you should install the drive internally.
"Shuck" the Drive:
Carefully open your external enclosure and remove the bare 10TB WD Gold SATA drive.
Install in the NAS:
Slide out an empty drive tray from your DXP4800 Plus, secure the WD Gold into the tray, and slide it into the NAS until it clicks.
Open Storage Manager:
Log into UGOS Pro and open the
Storage Manager
application.
Create a Storage Pool:
Create a Btrfs Volume:
Once the internal volume finishes initializing, you will have a dedicated, high-performance Btrfs storage space where you can create standard shared folders, set up automated snapshots, and install applications.

Setting up a 10TB WD Gold on your Ugreen DXP4800 Plus is a great choice—those enterprise-grade drives are built for heavy workloads.
However, before we jump into the setup, there is an important technical distinction to make regarding how NAS operating systems (including Ugreen's UGOS Pro) handle storage.
You cannot create a standard "Storage Pool" or internal "Volume" over a USB connection.
NAS systems treat USB-connected enclosures as removable media. While you can format an external drive and use it for file storage or backups, you cannot install NAS apps on it or use advanced internal storage features.
Depending on your goal, you have two paths. Here is how to set up both.
Option 1: Set it up as an External USB Drive
Option 1: Set it up as an External USB Drive
Best for: Backups, transferring large amounts of data, or portable storage.
If you want to keep the WD Gold inside its external enclosure and plug it in via USB, the NAS will mount it as an external shared folder.
Connect the Drive:
Plug the external enclosure into one of the USB ports on your DXP4800 Plus. For a mechanical hard drive, any of the USB 3.0 or 10Gbps ports on the back will provide plenty of bandwidth.
Open UGOS Pro:

"Shuck" the Drive:
Carefully open your external enclosure and remove the bare 10TB WD Gold SATA drive.

Open Storage Manager:
Log into UGOS Pro and open the
